Freshman Field Trip Reflection
Over the course of this program, I was inspired in a different way than I think the majority of freshman were. Personally, none of the jobs inspired me. I think that I realized more about myself by not connecting than I did connecting to what we were seeing. I think since I couldn’t connect to any of the jobs it made it hard to focus on the business layout, what kind of jobs (levels) there are, and anything else they talked about. It also took me a while to realize what I want to do instead of focusing on what I don’t want to do, so if there was an opportunity to visit somewhere that targeted what I want to do, I missed it. When I realized I found interest in being an esthetician or going into cosmetology, I looked up what kind of schooling I would need for that, and I found that you can go to community college for degrees for jobs under that description. At one point, we focused on what kind of degrees there are, how long they take to get, and where you can get them. Part of this was focusing on community college and jobs you can get with a degree earned in community college, but we never visited anywhere that showcased a job that required that type of degree. In the end, do I think this program is a good program to help open up the minds of freshman to career paths? Yes. Do I think it was a good program for me? Not so much.
