The three most successful steps on our rube were a lever, a wheel and axle, and a pulley. One of the first steps was a lever. Started by another piece hitting the lever upwards, the lever launched 3 marbles up and onto another step of the rube. The wheel and axle doesn’t look like a wheel and axle on the rube, but the piece of wood that was hit by one marble rotated around a nail to hit another marble into a small, cardboard box. This is what started the pulley. The marble fell into the box, pulling up another piece on the other side in another box. It was the first piece of the newton’s cradle we had, which would in the end hit a marble and send it rolling down a track. The newton’s cradle was an example of kinetic energy when it had enough force to send the momentum through the balls and send the marble off on the other side.
