This project was connected to humanities, as we were learning about black history for black history month. In humanities, I studied Ida B Wells, an anti-lynching activist, journalist, feminist, and equal rights activist. The final product was made in Photoshop. I took the journalist side of Ida B Wells by having the background be a letter/journal style format, and also layering a scan of a newspaper that contained a story about three of Ida's friends. The story was about how the three were murdered by a group of white men after an incident between the two groups at the black men's store (Ida's friends) got them into a jail cell, which is what inspired Ida B Wells to become an anti-lynching activist. To make the visual aide more specific to her, I added a quote [of hers] and a picture of Ida B Wells. Creating a visual aide about Wells almost made her more of a real person to me, because when you are reading about someone, you see pictures of the person, but creating a visual aid about them forces you to step into their shoes and imagine how they would represent them self.
